Phat Girlz [2006] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Customer Review: No, no no
I find Mo’nique one of the funniest women around - Considering her ability to make me laugh, she should be more well known. I have recommended her show, and her films to friends and family alike, BUT, I did not like this film. Whilst there were good points, I came away after watching it, very disappointed. Whilst I am happy to have the film in my collection, it will be a very wet, cold and lonely night, before I am tempted to watch it again.

Mo’nique is larger than life, in more ways than one, but this film just did not make me feel they way her other films do.

Customer Review: PHAT…is definitely pretty, hot and thick
Well Mo’nique is doing it again with her jokes but also seeing a more serious side to her was nice. It is good to see that for once in a film centre of attention is not on the ‘glamour model’ type girl but on all the other women that are out there.

Although you can see it is a low budget movie the message is quite clear…being plus size does not mean you can’t have it all as well.

It starts out with two friends wondering why they can’t have, what the “skinny” girl has and wondering if their lives will ever change. There is a brilliant scene when Mo’nique is drinking and a skinny girl is flicking her hair and flicks the cup out of her hand. This truly will have you in stitches. Another scene that will have you amused is when they are ordering takeaway and she goes head to head with the boy serving her.

Of course it all changes when she goes to Palm Springs and meets the man of her dreams, but because of her own hang ups she can’t accept that he just may be interested in her for who she is. I agree with the previous review, the scene with them discussing who is going to take out Mia will crack you up.

Anyway, upon Mo’nique achieving some of her desires and learning to like who she is, she remembers the man of her dreams…

It is a good film to watch, and the song African Queen says it all.

This is one worth buying.
